Atwater Township Cemetery Rules

- 1The cemetery is closed from sunset to sunrise. Violators will be prosecuted for trespassing.
- 2No permanent plantings of any kind are permitted in the cemetery.
- 3Memorial Day decorations may be placed upon graves between May 15th and June 5th.
- 4Winter decorations may be placed upon graves from November 15th to one week following Easter.
- 5All decorations left past the dates listed in Rules 3 and 4 WILL BE disposed of by township personnel, except one small decoration at ground level.
- 6Absolutely no glass containers are permitted in the cemetery due to safety concerns associated with mowing.
- 7Hanging plants and decorations are not permitted in the cemetery.
- 8Only head and footstones are permitted for graves. In the upright section, only one upright stone per grave.
- 9Benches are not permitted.
- 10A solid border with mulch or gravel is acceptable with multiple decorations within the border. It is the individual's responsibility to weed and maintain decorations within the border.
- 11Any grave not maintained to acceptable standards of the Board of Trustees will be remedied by township employees. Any items removed will be disposed of.
- 12Full burials must have a vault (concrete or steel) and cremations must be in a sealed container.
- 13The limit of interments per grave is 3 cremations, or 1 full burial and 2 cremations only if the full burial is first.
- 14If an individual wishes to allot more than one grave for an individual, they must sell the grave/lot back to the township for the original purchase price, and the new owner must purchase at the current rates.
- 15Atwater Township Trustees reserve the right to enact or amend the rules at any time. The board also reserves the right to maintain the cemetery in keeping with community standards as determined by the Board of Trustees.
- 16All exhuming requests and arrangements must come from a licensed funeral director. Exhuming requests not from a funeral director will not be permitted.
Please note: The Township does NOT do footers for monuments. Footers are to be done by monument companies.
